Introduction to AI in Recruitment

Understand the tools. Manage the risks. Build the case for smarter recruitment

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly changing Talent Acquisition. From market research and sourcing to content creation, candidate communications, interview preparation and data analysis, AI has the potential to improve productivity and reshape how recruitment work gets done.

But adopting AI is not simply about finding the latest tool.

TA and HR professionals also need to understand where AI genuinely adds value, where human judgement must remain central, and how to manage issues such as privacy, confidentiality, bias, transparency and governance.

Introduction to AI in Recruitment is a practical half-day program designed specifically for Talent Acquisition and HR practitioners. It cuts through the hype to explore how AI is being used across recruitment, practical tools and use cases, the risks and ethical considerations, and how to make informed decisions about adopting new technology.

The aim is not to replace human judgement, but to understand how AI can be used to enhance human capability and create smarter, more efficient recruitment practices – a principle that sits at the heart of any HR or Corporate planning process.

Is Introduction to AI in Recruitment right for you?

This course is designed for TA and HR professionals who want to better understand Artificial Intelligence and its practical application within recruitment.

No advanced technical or AI knowledge is required. The program is equally relevant for practitioners who are beginning to experiment with AI and those already using tools such as generative AI but wanting a more structured understanding of their opportunities, limitations and risks.

It is particularly useful for professionals who are being asked questions such as:

Where should we be using AI? What tools are available? What information is safe to put into AI? How do we manage bias? How do we know whether a new tool is worth investing in? And how do we build the business case?

The program is suitable for:
  • Hiring Managers and People Leaders
  • Team Leaders and Supervisors
  • New and emerging managers
  • Managers who regularly sit on interview or selection panels
  • Organisations wanting to establish a more consistent and professional approach to recruitment.

Benefits for Individuals

Participants will build practical AI literacy specifically within a recruitment and HR context.

Rather than focusing on the technology itself, the program helps participants understand how to apply AI to real TA activities, how to critically evaluate AI-tools and or generated outputs, and where greater caution or human oversight is required.

Participants will also leave with greater confidence to contribute to organisational and hiring manager conversations about AI, technology investment, governance and the future design of recruitment.

Benefits for Organisations

Building AI capability within TA and HR is not simply about technology adoption. It is about ensuring practitioners can identify opportunities, evaluate risks and make informed decisions about where and what technology can genuinely improve recruitment.

The program can help organisations:

  • improve productivity by identifying opportunities to automate or accelerate repetitive TA activities
  • create smarter recruitment workflows and more time for strategic and stakeholder-facing work
  • build greater confidence in the responsible and ethical use of AI
  • reduce risks associated with privacy, confidentiality, bias and inappropriate AI use
  • improve the organisation’s ability to evaluate emerging recruitment technologies
  • strengthen the business case for technology investment and process change
  • improve candidate and Hiring Manager experience without losing the human element of recruitment
  • build a more informed, future-ready TA or HR function.

These benefits also include smarter workflows, responsible use, reduced technology-enabled bias, better technology evaluation and stronger strategic capability within TA

Workshop Overview

This highly practical half-day workshop introduces participants to the opportunities, applications and risks of AI in recruitment.

Participants explore where AI can add value across the recruitment lifecycle, experiment with practical use cases and tools, examine ethical and governance considerations, and consider how new technology should be evaluated and introduced within an organisation.

Importantly, the program moves beyond “What is AI?” to the more useful organisational question:

“Where should we use AI in recruitment – and where shouldn’t we?”

Modules include

Professional Certifications in Talent Acquisition. TAAA
AI Fundamentals - What AI Is and Isn't

An accessible introduction to AI and Generative AI, common terminology and how these technologies are changing recruitment and HR.

Participants also explore common failure modes including hallucinations, overconfidence, bias amplification and confidentiality leakage.

AI Across the Recruitment Lifecycle

Mapping where AI can potentially support recruitment activities including market research, sourcing, content and advert development, candidate communications, interview preparation, shortlisting, assessments, analysis and administration.

Participants consider where AI provides the greatest potential value and where the level of risk or required human oversight increases

Practical AI Tools - “Cool Tools for TA”

A practical exploration of current AI and recruitment technology tools and their potential applications.

Rather than simply providing a list of technology, the session considers what problem each tool solves, how it could improve a recruitment workflow and whether it provides sufficient value to warrant further investigation.

Smarter TA Workflows & Productivity

Exploring how AI and automation can reduce repetitive work and create more time for higher-value activities such as stakeholder partnering, candidate engagement and strategic Talent Acquisition

Ethics, Bias & “Bias in the Machine”

Understanding how bias can be embedded, reproduced or amplified through algorithms, datasets, automated screening and AI-generated content.

Participants consider how to question outputs and retain fair, inclusive and evidence-based recruitment practices.

Privacy, Confidentiality & Responsible AI

What should and shouldn’t – go into an AI tool?

This section explores candidate personal information, confidential organisational information, record keeping, transparency and the importance of maintaining defensible recruitment decisions.

The AI Traffic Light framework

GREEN – Safe to use | AMBER – Use with review/caution | RED – Don’t use

This template gives participants a practical tool to take away and use in their own workplace, rather than simply telling them to “use AI responsibly.

Evaluating AI & Recruitment Technology

Not every new AI tool deserves investment.

Participants learn how to assess potential AI technologies against factors such as:

Business Need • Usability • Integration • Data Security • Candidate Experience • Inclusion • Cost • Expected Value • Bias in the machine

This program starts shifting HR and TA practitioners from technology consumers to informed technology buyer/adviser.

Building the Business Case for Change

How do you move from “this looks like a great tool” to a credible organisational proposal?

Participants consider the recruitment problems they are trying to solve, expected benefits, costs, risks, implementation requirements and the stakeholders who may need to be involved – including HR, IT, procurement, legal, privacy and senior leaders

Your AI Action Plan

The session concludes by identifying practical next steps: what to explore, what to trial and what safeguards need to be in place.

For an in-house program, this can include development of an initial 30-day AI adoption plan with appropriate guardrails.
